Conceição Santos is Full Professor of Biology at FCUP. She integrates the GreenUP/CITAB-UP since its birth (formerly was in CESAM). Until 2015 she was Professor at UA where she lead the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Cytomics (its competencies are now at GreenUP).
She coordinated several somatic embryogenesis programmes in species as pine, eucalyptus, elm, olive, corkoak and grapevine. She is currently studying plant flow cytometry and metabolomic responses of these and other species (lettuce, tomato, moringa, etc) to climate changes and toxicants (eg metals, NPs, pesticides). Also collaborates with Dr Miguel Oliveira in the study of phytocompounds’ effects in osteosarcoma cells.
She participated in 24 National/International Projects (coordinator of 10), 5 intersectoral (most collaborations with plant biotechnology/pulp companies and for environment monitoring services).
She is (co)author of 1 review international book on crop metal toxicity, 8 Manuals/Guides; 15 international book chapters; 133 ISI papers (Hindex=25).
She has been Member of International/European Evaluation Commissions (eg, FP7, H2020) and of scientific Meetings. She was/is responsible for several courses (e.g Plant Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Cell Biology). Supervised 1 researcher, 16 post-doc grants, 22 PhD and 52 Master students.
Her main research interests are on biotechnology, and plant/crops signalling and development in response to environmental challenges.
